THE ROUND HOUSE

together with approximately 60 acres of surrounding land. The Round House is a Grade II* listed building dating from 1792-4. It has been attributed to the architect John Plaw only due to a possible connection with Belle Isle on Lake Windermere, Cumbria. The house has three full storeys and a cellar, being truly elliptical, 50 x 40 feet at the maximum. Unlike a circular form the elliptical shape enables attractively proportioned almost semi-circular rooms. The house was conceived as a country villa for a wealthy London citizen and remains a family home.
