BALLYWALTER PARK

A Victorian Italianate Palazzo, designed by Sir Charles Lanyon for Andrew Mulholland, great, great, great grandfather of the present owner, constructed between 1846 and 1852. A single storey sandstone gentlemen's wing and conservatory, also by Lanyon was added in 1870 together with later Edwardian additions by W J Fennell. While only a minority of the contents are by well-known artists or of special merit in themselves, many of the contents of the principal rooms in the House, including paintings of members of the family, have been designated as Historically Associated with the House. Items of silver from a collection of trophies, won by the yacht Egeria while in John Mulholland's ownership, are displayed on a revolving basis. The house is situated in approx 30 acres of landscaped grounds and is complemented by the original stable block and walled garden, which contains two ranges of glasshouses.
