BILSEY HILL

SSSI is a 20 metre deep pit at Breck Farm, Holt, Norfolk. It is an important site for studying the Ice Age in North Norfolk. It demonstrates a sequence of till, sands and gravels.

Access

There is a permissive vehicular and pedestrian access along the track between the public highway and the lay-by. This permissive footpath into the Bilsey Hill SSSI is open to the public for 2 days a year and by appointment at all other times. It is only open to the public for 2 days a year on Health and Safety grounds as there are concerns over public safety due to the 20 metre deep pit.

1. In this document which, together with the Maps and Conservation & Enhancement Scheme referred to below, is referred to as "the Undertaking", I undertake as follows: (a) To maintain the outstanding land and preserve its character and to meet all relevant statutory requirements. (i) To take the following mandatory steps for maintenance and preservation: " Manage the land in accordance with the Conservation Enhancement Scheme agreement management prescriptions for the benefit of the features identified in the Bilsey Hill SSSI Geological Survey Report (Allen, P., unpublished, 2011) " Maintain the cleared quarry face free from scrub in accordance with the methodology set out in the CES agreement.
