LOCH MAREE

Description: The loch, the largest in the north-west Highlands is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and sits in a landscape of stunning scenery. It covers over forty scattered islands which support fragments of the original Caledonian Pine forest. The islands are managed by Scottish Natural Heritage as part of the Beinn Eighe and Loch Maree Islands National Nature Reserve (NNR). Black-throated divers take advantage of the tranquillity of freshwater lochs, to breed.

Access

Access Details: By road, 10 miles northwest of Kinlochewe, off the A832. Limited bus service from Inverness. ACCESS - Loch Maree Islands can only be reached by non-motorised craft, so they are best appreciated from the shores. Visitors are asked to respect the black-throated divers especially during their nesting season between 1 April and 30 September. Visitors are also requested not to start any open fires of any sort on the Islands.

The owner's binding undertakings

1. To undertake with respect to the property:- (a) to take reasonable steps for the maintenance of the property and the preservation of its character including:- (i) within 24 months after the date of this undertaking, preparing and agreeing a Heritage Management Plan ("the HMP") for the property to the reasonable satisfaction of Scottish Natural Heritage ("SNH") in accordance with the parameters set out in Schedule 1 hereto, or as otherwise agreed with SNH, and to abide by its terms; (ii) taking all reasonable steps to ensure that all third parties with an interest in the property - including any agricultural or other tenants - are made fully aware of and comply with the terms of this undertaking; (iii) seeking the prior written approval of SNH before carrying out any work which may require statutory or regulatory consent including planning permission in terms of Town and Country Pl…
