
OLD CASTLE LACHLAN
The ruined castle, 43 feet high, is the ancestral home of the Clan Maclachlan and has a commanding position overlooking Loch Fyne. It is nationally and architectecturally important and its design is almost unique in Scotland. The earliest reference to a castle on the site is in 1314, with the current castle attributed to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Access
The site is located on the east shore of Loch Fyne, close to the B8000 (a turning off the A886) and is about six miles south of the village of Strachur and is 30 minutes by car from Inveraray and 1 hour 30 from Glasgow. There is unrestricted access to the exterior of the castle throughout the year.

1. To take the following steps for maintenance repair and preservation: (i) To take all reasonable steps for the maintenance of the Property and the preservation of its character, and for securing reasonable access for the public as set our below. (ii) To take the steps set out in the 10 year Management Plan for the maintenance repair and preservation of the Property having full regard to its historic and architectural interest.
